The Therme Group is forging ahead with ambitious global wellness and spa expansion plans. The company recently unveiled a futuristic AED2 billion (US$545 million) flagship sky spa in the Middle East. The destination will be called Therme Dubai – Islands in the Sky.
Dubai’s Islands in The Sky
According to Therme, “Part of the Quality of Life Strategy 2033, Therme Dubai – Islands in the Sky brings together Dubai’s ambition to advance its landscape and become an urban oasis with Therme Group’s leadership in wellbeing-driven infrastructure.”

This partnership brings together two forces driving that future: Dubai’s bold vision for urban planning and Therme Group’s commitment to redefining urban wellbeing through innovation. Together, we are creating more than a destination.”
Commenting on the announcement, Dr. Robert Hanna, Founder and CEO of the Therme Group said, “We are shaping how cities can integrate nature, water, and culture to elevate quality of life at scale. Dubai has a reputation for attention grabbing design and innovation in architecture. This project will certainly set the bar in terms of wellness destinations globally.
Dubai is a leading global destination
In a news broadcast, CNN reported that “Dubai is famous for its attention-grabbing architecture, whether it’s the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, or the actual “World” — an archipelago of 300 man-made islands in the shape of, as its name suggests, the world.”
The new project by Therme Group, a global developer of wellbeing resorts, promises to transform the skyline of the United Arab Emirates’ biggest city even further.”
Featuring botanical gardens suspended in air
Rising to a height of 100 meters (328 feet), “Therme Dubai – Islands in the Sky” will feature among other innovations, a botanical gardens suspended from the air. Visitors will also find cascading pools filled with restorative thermal and mineral waters, as well as spaces for cultural and social events.
Designed by renowned architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Therme Dubai will be located in Zabeel Park, beside the Royal Palace in the heart of Dubai.
The landmark will span 500,000sq ft with a 100m-tall structure. It has been designed to welcome 1.7 million visitors annually.
Enhancing human wellbeing and connection in the sky
Islands in the Sky is being developed in collaboration with Dubai Municipality and was approved by the crown prince of Dubai. his highness sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Irina Matei, Chief Executive Officer Therme Dubai told media, “The Dubai 2040 Urban Plan and Therme Group’s mission are deeply aligned. We both believe cities must evolve to enhance human wellbeing, connection, and environmental harmony. This collaboration is more than a development—it’s a new way of thinking about cities and their role in shaping a healthier future for all.”
Construction is set to start in 2026 and the destination is set to open in the UAE in 2028.
