We all know that the earth is suffering. After years and years of humans mistreating the planet, the environment is not in the best shape.
It can be easy to think that what you do won’t make a difference, but the truth is that if everyone implemented some small changes in their lives, the environment would likely be much better off. Helping the environment doesn’t mean you need to spend all your time picking up trash (although if you want to do that, go for it!). But you can also help the environment in small ways as well, and this post will be showing you how.
Support sustainable companies
It may be true that you don’t have much power when it comes to helping the environment. It’s often big corporations that can make the biggest difference. But what you can do is choose which corporations to support.
By supporting corporations that are ethical and sustainable, you are helping the environment. And this is true for everything – from big things like which type of car you buy to smaller things like which brand you pick when doing your weekly grocery shop. For example, you could decide to support a sustainable company that uses conservation tillage.
Recycle
We know that recycling sounds hard and time-consuming, but it really doesn’t have to be. In fact, recycling doesn’t necessarily even mean recycling in the traditional sense of dividing your trash and sending it to recycling companies. While this is great, not everyone has the time needed to dedicate to his form of recycling.
Recycling can also mean using your grocery bags as trash bags instead of throwing them out, or reusing an empty ice cream container instead of buying more Tupperware.
If you are interested in other methods of recycling, this post is a helpful resource for beginners.
Walk instead of driving
Another simple way to help the environment is to drive less. As we all know, most cars are pretty bad for the earth, whereas walking is a more eco-friendly way of traveling.
Of course, this doesn’t mean you should get rid of your car or walk twenty blocks to get to work. But if your grocery store is just down the street, consider walking instead of driving the next time you run out of milk. However, if you are walking alone, be sure to follow these safety tips.
Eat more plant-based meals
Generally speaking, plant-based meals are also better for the environment than animal-based products.
Once again, there’s no need for you to go vegetarian unless you want to. But it can be a good idea to simply reduce how many animal-based products you consume. Even having one plant-based day a week will make a big difference. You can also consider trying different types of plant-based milk to see if you enjoy them, or you can try to incorporate one entirely plant-based meal into every day. There are no rules – it’s all about figuring out what works for you and the environment.
