The last thing you want to worry about is your skin breaking out during the holiday period. In fact, you want your skin to be exactly what your holiday season is going to be: perfect.

Granted you may have your own holiday skincare routine that includes a lot of sunscreen. However, sometimes the best thing to do is give your skin a much-needed boost before the holiday festivities begin. As such, going in for a facial could be the way to go. However, with so many options before us, what’s the best treatment for your skin before the holidays begin?

The Optiphi Classic Facial Is The Perfect Pre-Holiday Treatment

2021 has been a long year, and the effects can be seen in my skin. It could be maskne, the hot African sun, or the occasional stress-related breakouts. The point is that my skin has been going through a lot in the past 12 months. As such, I want to ensure that my skin can properly enjoy the holiday season.

Thankfully, I was lucky enough to ensure that my skin started the holiday season off right as I was invited to the Life Day Spa to experience the Optiphi Classic Facial. A 60-minute treatment, the facial promises to help keep my skin healthy and happy throughout the holiday period.

A classic cleanse

The treatment, led by beauty therapist Lebo, began with the Optiphi Classic Cleanser. This is a gentle cleanser that provides a deep and effective cleanse.

This is thanks in particular to the presence of allantoin and salicylic acid. A popular K-beauty ingredient, allantoin is a great ingredient, especially for those with sensitive skin.

Not only is allantoin gentle on the skin, but it also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Along with salicylic acid, which targets blocked pores and dead skin cells, the Optiphi Classic Cleanser is the perfect choice for a deep yet gentle and effective cleanse.

In addition to cleansing my skin, Lebo also placed a facial steamer over my face. This was to help unclog my pores more and allow for a deeper cleanse.

A polished exfoliant

Exfoliation is vital for the skin, especially for someone like me who already battles with blocked pores. Add in the dreaded maskne, exfoliation is a step in my skincare routine that cannot be skipped, and it was my favourite part of the facial.

For the exfoliating part of my facial, Lebo used the Optiphi Brilliant and Bright Polish. The aim of the product is to remove dead skin cells but to also replenish and balance the lipids in my skin, which are an essential part of the skin barrier. So what’s in the product?

Well, for one there’s rice and oats, both of which can help to gently exfoliate the skin, sloughing away dirt, oil and dead skin cells.

Skin restore

Following the exfoliation, Lebo then applied the Optiphi Restore Therapy. While this product is most commonly used as a night cream, it definitely had a place in my facial.

This is because, thanks to the presence of retinol, the product helps to rejuvenate the skin and encourage cell turnover, which can leave my skin healthy and refreshed.

Mask on, mask off

Another aspect of the facial that I thoroughly enjoyed was the Polyphenol Algae Mask.

This fast-acting mask, which hardens on the face once it dries, allowing for easy removal, helps the Optiphi Restore Therapy penetrate deeper into the skin. Furthermore, the mask also contains seaweed-based properties that have a soothing and relaxing effect on the skin.

The final boost

Once the mask is removed, the treatment ends with the Optiphi Radiance Boost which provides a moisturizing conclusion to my facial and ensures that all the products that have been applied to my skin can continue to work once I’ve left the spa. After all, you are doing yourself a disservice if you use products on your skin without ensuring that your skin is adequately hydrated.

The verdict

Some people put off treatment before they go on holiday because they’re worried about how their skin will react, but you won’t have that issue with this treatment. Not only is this facial gentle on your skin, but it helps to effectively address your concerns, ensuring that you can start the festive season off right.

Want to know more?

When you hear of fermentation, you probably think of all the benefits that your gut is going to enjoy. However, you might want to spend the holiday season introducing your skin to fermented skincare, as your skin’s microbiome is sure to thank you.
