An individual sense of identity also aids in cultivating the understanding that your partner is not responsible for meeting all your needs. Being able to sustain a support system outside your relationship can help you maintain connections beyond the romantic relationship.

Integrity and Recognition

A healthy relationship constitutes being open and honest with the other person. Knowing that you can physically and emotionally feel safe around the person and encourage each other shows that both of you share a harmonious relationship.  Being honest can often leave us feeling vulnerable, but at the same time can result in being open and genuine where you are recognized for who you are.

Misunderstandings are pretty common in relationships, as it is not possible to agree with everything. With a difference in opinion, arguments are quite common. At the same time, resolving those arguments gives way to understanding each other’s perspectives and respecting the views you bring to the relationship.

Conflict resolution can help find solutions to current problems and work together as a team and support one another. While it is not necessary to agree on everything that the other person says, finding common ground where the issues are spoken about helps bring no interference in the relationship at a later stage.

The ability to put emotions into words and label them brings forward a deeper understanding of what we are feeling at the present moment.

Expressing motivates us to act in a particular way and be aware of coping with such emotions that we often think. Being aware of how we feel about certain things and expressing that can create a balance between non-verbal gestures and verbal gestures.

Masking intense emotions can protect us from rejection in life. However, speaking about them, especially with people we care about, makes us feel better. Emotional expression also has other cognitive benefits, such as focusing and organizing emotional memories, autobiographical memory, and deep processing of emotions.

Setting boundaries is quite essential. It includes being aware of them and knowing what kind of boundaries we are expecting to set with others.

Finding the right time to discuss the boundaries with our partners can make us acquainted with what is considered right or wrong. It also works better to grow together. It is vital to find time when both individuals can focus on what is being discussed and weigh the pros and cons. Being supportive and acknowledging the boundaries of one another can help to motivate each other towards getting better each day.

In positive relationships, we can embrace our individuality and grow while loving the other person at the same time. A healthy relationship does not suffocate us in any way but helps us become the best version of ourselves.

While looking for signs that you are in a healthy relationship, sometimes you have to look around. You should see if your relationship brings you joy and fulfillment.
