Practicing yoga can steam up your sex life. How? Well, it turns out that sex and yoga are intimately linked. Not only are great sex and yoga some of the ultimate mind-body experiences, but certain yoga poses can also be a very effective means of foreplay.
Ellen Barrett is the author of the book Sexy Yoga. She explains that yoga is not only an amazing stress reliever, but that certain postures also improve:
- increase blood flow, and
- open your heart
She adds that all of these are necessary for a hot sex life.
Researchers published a study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine revealing that most women have a problem staying focused during sex.
This is one of the main reasons why sex may become boring or unemotional for them. Barret explains: “The mindfulness you learn during yoga can translate to other parts of your life, so you can enjoy lovemaking entirely for what it is, and not think or worry about anything else.”
These seven yoga poses can either be used as a daily partnered workout or simply when you want to get in the mood.
Barret says: “You can do them solo or – even better – with your partner. Sweating, breathing, and moving together is fantastic foreplay.”
1 Cat/Cow Stretch
This pose works to strengthen your Kegel muscles as you control your tail bone moving from cat to cow. These are the same muscles which contract during orgasm.
This pose has two benefits. The first is that it is energising – this is great for couples who often feel too wiped out to have sex. The second is that it opens the heart chakra, in doing this ones focus is placed on love which is linked to sexual intimacy.
This pose it particularly good at teaching mindfulness. With its emphasis on balance it forces you to focus on one thing at a time. This helps to slow life down and increases conscious awareness of the present moment.
4 Bound Angle
This has a directly physiological benefit. It heats the groin area and opens the hips for a wider range of motion.
5 Shoulder Stand
This pose is an instant energy boost as it increases blood flow to the hips and brain. You are also staring at your pelvic area which can be erotically charged.
This pose is known for its hip flexor stretching benefits and phenomenal tension relieving capabilities.
This pose is confidence boosting as well as strength enhancing, both of which are important for great sex. It takes the use of many different core muscles to keep your body in the proper form, building strength. Plank is also an excellent ab toner which will help you to look and feel better about yourself.
