Earlier this year, Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson shared her 2020 New Year Resolutions to improve her health. Dubbing 2020 as β€˜The Year of Health’, the star told her Instagram followers how she planned to change her eating habits and adopt a more active lifestyle.

At the time, she wrote: β€œOkay so for me, 2020 is going to be called β€˜The Year of Health.’

β€œSo I put on the athleisure and went out for a walk, deliberately hydrating on the couch right now and trying to avoid the sugar and junk food, which is going to be hard after the holidays I’ve just had but I’m going to do it! Who’s with me in making some positive changes this year?” Β The actress further wrote that she plans to reach her goal weightΒ of 165 pounds.

That said, the actress recently posted a photo to her Instagram page and it was quite clear that she had succeeded when it came to her New Year’s Resolution. While fans commented on her incredible weight loss, others also posed the simple question of how did she do it?

Rebel’s Journey With Her Weight

In a 2015 interview with Cosmopolitan, Rebel candidly revealed that hormonal balance in her body made her more prone to weight gain. What’s more, the CatsΒ actress also shared that food was essentially her vice. She admitted that she had quite the emotional relationship with food.

β€œI love me some ice cream or dessert, and it comes at times when I’m happy or sad. So when I have an incredibly successful day, I want to celebrate and reward myself with food. If I’ve had a sad or stressful day, food is also comfort. You would probably describe it as emotional or stress-eating”

As we know, stress-eating is quite common, especially during these times, but it can also be incredibly detrimental to your health. This is why we’re so proud of Rebel for taking charge and adopting healthier lifestyle habits. That said, let’s see how exactly the comedian managed to improve her health and lose weight along the way.

She Adopts The Mayr Method Eating Plan

When it comes to her dietary habits, Rebel Wilson is following the Mayr methodΒ (1).

The Mayr method is based on the ‘Mayr Cure’ created by Austrian physician Dr. F.X. Mayr in the early 20th century. According to Dr. Mayr, a healthy digestive system means a healthy body and the foods we eat can either poison or boost our health.

The eating plan encourages practitioners to consume whole, fresh foods such as vegetables and fruits. The method also eliminates snacking and reduces gluten, sugar, and dairy.

Other components of the Mayr methodΒ includeΒ chewing your foodΒ slower. According to Harvard Health, eating slowly may help you feel full faster. What’s more, a studyΒ published in theΒ International Journal of Food Sciences and NutritionΒ found that people who struggle with their weight often chew their food less than those who don’t struggle with their weight.

She circuit trains

According to Wilson’s trainer, Jono CastanoΒ Acero, the actress does circuit training in the gym, and this often takes the form of the assault bike, battle rope slams, and TRX squats.

β€œI use the TRX as it focuses on using body weight and gravity as resistance to build strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, core and joint stability,” Acero told Hollywood Life.

She hikes

Wilson often shares snaps of herself, after completing hiking trails, and she letsΒ fans know that she’s getting “closer each day” to her goal.

Hiking is not only a great way to get your steps in, but it also helps to boost your heart health. What’s more, hiking can also help to relieve stress as a result of you being out in nature (2).

She flips tires

Yes,Β you read that right.

On her Instagram page, the actress shared a video of herself flipping a large tire as part of her workout.

Flipping tires not only works your core, but it also focuses on the muscles in the posterior chain – your back, glutes, and hamstrings, helping to strengthen and stabilize them.

She’s a knockout

In addition to sharing clips of herself flipping tires, Wilson also shared images of herself boxing in a ring.

It’s no wonder that she looks so good as boxing can do more for you than boost your confidence. In fact, boxing can help to improve heart health, tone your muscles, and even improve your coordination skills.

She’s comfortable in her skin, no matter the size

While Wilson’s weight loss journey is a success, the actress knows that it’s always important to love the skin you’re in, regardless of the size. Even before her weight loss journey, the actress was well known for her approach to body positivity. In fact, Wilson has launched a plus-size fashion line called Rebel Wilson x Angels, with theΒ comingΒ in sizes 12 – 24. Speaking to InStyleΒ magazineΒ about the range, Wilson said she was inspired after having trouble finding clothes of her size.

β€œI remember I didn’t even go to a friend’s wedding in my 20s because I didn’t know where to buy a dress in my size,”

Regardless of where you are in your weight loss journey, it’s important to always remember that yourΒ self-worth is not dependentΒ on your weight. Doing so will ensure that you adopt lifestyle habits that will help to properly support yourΒ physical and mental health.
