A desperate housewife, she is anything but, as at 46 years old, Eva Longoria is the epitome of class, elegance, and health. The former soapie actress has graced our screens for over twenty years and despite how much time has passed, one thing that remains the same is her commitment to a healthy lifestyle. So, what can we learn from the Devious Maids producer when it comes to healthy living?

Eva Longoria’s Health Secrets at 46

1. She prefers salty snacks over sugary treats

Speaking to Women’s Health, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actress revealed that when it comes to her snacking habits, she prefers salty of sweet, “I don’t like sweets or chocolate, and people hate me for it. Bread too—I hate bread. I’m never tempted by the breadbasket,” she explained. Rather, she prefers olives, pretzels, popcorn, and potato chips.

Now, while we don’t recommend indulging too much in popcorn and potato chips, olives and pretzels are a great snacking option as they’re both low in calories and olives are rich in a number of nutrients, particularly vitamin A and iron.

2. Exercise to cope

When it comes to exercising, many people credit its effects on our physical health, yet many often disregard the effects it can have on our mental health. Thankfully, Eva Longoria is not one of these people.

“I really work out for my mental health,” she says, adding that she uses 60-75 minutes of her day to focus on moving her body.

3. An avid jumper

If you’re curious about how Eva Longoria stays active, one of her favorite ways is to jump on the trampoline, telling Women’s Health, “It makes me present. You really have to focus on the routine and memorize the movements. They switch sides a lot, which can throw you off, so you have to be on top of it. I love that.”

4.  Make time for me  time

If there’s one thing Longoria believes in, it’s me-time. As such, she makes sure to meditate every day, sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes for 20.

What’s more, she and her friends recently signed up for a 21-day guided meditation where they’ll be writing down their thoughts, adding that “It’s so great, because when you do it with your tribe, it’s better; you can be more accountable,” she says.

5. Track your sleep

Sleep is important, and you need to make sure that you’re getting enough of it. One way to ensure this is by tracking your sleep.

Longoria shared with Women’s Health that she wears an Oura Ring, which uses skin temperature and movement sensors to measure the length and quality of her sleep.

Another way in which Longoria manages her sleep patterns is by ensuring that she doesn’t have too much wine with her dinner, in which she then shares an interesting anecdote about a famous Cuban singer,

“I never used to feel a sugar rush when I would drink wine. But one day, Gloria Estefan told me she can’t drink wine because she wakes up at 4 a.m. The day she told me that, it started happening to me.”

6. An intermittent faster

Intermittent fasting is a favorite amongst a number of celebrities, such as Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson.

Eva Longoria is also an intermittent faster, saying that she usually eats within an eight-hour window every day, often 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Breakfast is black coffee,” she says, followed by her making breakfast for her family. She admits that sometimes she’ll have a bite of her son’s breakfast, typically if it aligns with her fasting schedule.

6. Plant-based warrior

A dietary habit that we can learn from the actress is to step back from processed foods and eat foods that grow from the ground,

“I’ve been dabbling with more plant-based ingredients,” Eva says. She shares that growing up on a ranch gave her such an appreciation for where food comes from and one of her favorite foods is beans, saying that Beans are a big source of protein for us. I love making portobello tacos, jackfruit tacos, and cauliflower fried rice.”
