Patrizia D’Alessio: Speaker Profile: Part 19
An expert on mechanisms of inflammation in chronic inflammatory diseases, aging, and stress. Prof. D’ Alessio studied Medicine and Hematology at the University of Milan, obtained her PhD in Sciences from Utrecht University and worked as a professor and researcher in the Department of Cell Biology at the Universities of Paris 5 and Paris 11.
Her work has been focusing on cellular mechanisms of premature aging, induced by stress. Procrastinated inflammation and stress can induce and accelerate diseases as a consequence of increased cell senescence.
These findings constitute the hallmarks of her research. Following a bio-guided study of over 2000 plant extracts, she identified molecules that fight cellular stress without being toxic. In 2005, she established the R&D start-up AISA Therapeutics, following the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research Award for Innovative Enterprises.
