The Experts

Melissa Kelly

Melissa is a registered nutritionist who graduated from the University of Pretoria. Here, she also obtained a Diploma in Higher Education and Training practices. She was a part-time lecturer at the university in the field of nutrition education and has acted as a consulting dietician for the Blue Bulls squad. Her 24 years of clinical experience includes overseeing the nutritional management of in-and-out patients, as well as the in-service training of undergraduate dietetic students, the orientation of medical students, and the instruction of hospital personnel in basic principles of nutrition.

Melissa is a highly skilled health professional

Between 2002 and 2005 Melissa lectured part-time on dietetic students at her alma mater. She was also involved with the development of study guides and training material. In 2004 she was recognized for excellent service.

Melissa’s areas of expertise include Cardiology, Diabetes, Weight Management, General outpatient clinic, HIV clinic, Critical Care, TPN, and Tube feeds.

Between 2007 and 2008 she was a medial delegate at Nestle. She was involved with the detailing of infant formula and relationship building with healthcare professionals. Here, Melissa received the following awards:

  • Regional winner: Medical Delegate Management System 2007
  • Regional winner: Medical Detailing 2007
  • National winner: Medical Detailing 2007

She is the founder of the Scoop to Lose Company. Here, she developed an eating plan for adults, as well as children between the ages of two and 12 years. Melissa is currently in private practice.

Dr. Marilyn Davis-Shulmanbeauty | Longevity LIVE

She is an Educational Social Worker and Clinical Psychologist registered with the HPCSA, holding accreditations for achievement from the South African Institute for Traumatic Stress in Advanced Trauma Treatment. Dr. Davis-Shulman has been trained in the Neurobiological Legacy of Complex Traumatic Stress. This has significantly refined her skill-set and level of specialist expertise in dealing with the ramifications of attachment rupture in infants, children, adolescents, and adults.

She has also had extensive training and experience in family therapy and mediation, which has equipped her to evaluate and assess adult and child relationship dynamics. Her clinical expertise allows the diagnosis of insecure, ambivalent and/or disorganized attachment difficulties that render dysfunction within family systems.

Dr. Davis-Shulman’s psycho-legal work includes psychological evaluation and assessment, parenting coordination, mediation, the drawing up of parenting plans and post-divorce intervention, as well as acting as an expert in her field for court appearances.

Dr. Isabel van Niekerk

She is a naturopath and is qualified to work in all disciplines of naturopathy and related therapies. In 2004 she qualified as a Natural Practitioner and completed her B.A.S.M at the University of Alternative Medicine in India. Similarly, Dr. van Niekerk went on to complete her M.D. and Ph.D. After this,  she went on to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Psychotherapy and Counseling.

She also has a Bachelors in Hypnotherapy. Dr van Niekerk is registered with EPASA. Her new challenge as Director, founder, and owner of Rubicon Persona Clinics is to bring a far-reaching holistic approach to the larger public and improve the lives of people in general.

Brent Murphy

Brent is a pharmacist, who graduated from Rhodes University in 1992.  He specializes in the research of complementary medicines, specifically relating to their pharmacology and pharmacodynamics. He is a member of the research team at Ascendis Health’s wellness division. Also, he was previously a director and head of new product development at SOLAL Technologies before it was sold to Ascendis Health in 2013.

Brent has served on the executive council of the Health Products Association of South Africa from 2002 – 2008. He is an international speaker. From 1998 to 2018, many medical conferences have had him presenting. This includes the Pharmaceutical Summit, The Congress of the Society of Integrative Medicine and the International Anti-Aging and Aesthetic conference in London.

Brent is an acclaimed health professional

In 2007 he was awarded the Discovery Institute Award for Clinical Excellence. From 2010 until 2012, Brent was the editor of Health Intelligence, a consumer health magazine. In addition to this, he was also the senior consultant for MediCAMS, a reference book for pharmacists and doctors, on the uses, side effects, and dosages of most natural medicines and dietary supplements available in South Africa.

Brent also lectured WITS University 4th year pharmacy students on natural medicine for a 15-hour module each year starting in 2006-2012.
