With everything that the world has experienced in the past year, it’s about time that you realized that you too are a priority and there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself as such. When’s the last time that you took a step back and really spoiled yourself? If there’s one person that understands the importance of self-care, then it definitely has to be pop icon, Beyoncé Knowles.

Beyoncé: Self-Care Matters

“My health, the way I feel when I wake up in the morning, my peace of mind, the number of times I smile, what I’m feeding my mind and my body — those are the things that I’ve been focusing on,” Beyoncé, Harper’s Bazaar

In an interview for Harper’s Bazaar’s September Icons issue, Beyoncé spoke about how societal expectations, in conjunction with professional expectations, often force women to become the backbones of their communities. Unfortunately, this mentality can take a toll, with the Grammy winner revealing that not making herself a priority affected both her mental and physical health,

I’ve personally struggled with insomnia from touring for more than half of my life., she shared.

Thankfully, the 39-year-old soon realized the importance of her health, and as such, has learned to indulge in more self-care. With that said, if you want to emulate the Black is King songstress, read on for her top self-care tips.

Self Care Tips From Queen Bee

1. Listen To Your Body

It can be hard to be a woman in the spotlight. It can be hard to live up to society’s expectations for you, and the efforts aren’t necessarily good for your health,

In the past, I spent too much time on diets, with the misconception that self-care meant exercising and being overly conscious of my body,” Beyoncé told Harper’s Bazaar.

Thankfully, she eventually rid herself of this toxic mentality and began to adopt a more conscious and healthy one.

“Mental health is self-care too,” she said. “I’m learning to break the cycle of poor health and neglect, focusing my energy on my body and taking note of the subtle signs that it gives me. Your body tells you everything you need to know, but I’ve had to learn to listen.”

Regardless of how you think you’re supposed to look, it’s important to be in tune with your body’s needs. It’s one thing to be constantly exercising and ‘eating right’, but if your body isn’t truly reaping (and feeling) the benefits of these wellness techniques, then what’s the point?

2. Discover the power of CBD

If there’s one ingredient that should be part of your self-care routine, then it definitely has to be CBD.

“I discovered CBD on my last tour, and I’ve experienced its benefits for soreness and inflammation. It helped with my restless nights and the agitation that comes from not being able to fall asleep.”

CBD has incredible benefits for the body, and it can be an effective tool for your self-care days. If you’re still unsure, read all about my two-week journey with CBD.

3. Queen bee loves honey

Like many of us, Beyonce admitted that she had adopted some not-so-healthy habits during quarantine. She used the word ‘over indulgences’ and it’s definitely something we’ve each been guilty of – especially during the heavy lockdown days.

Thankfully, she eventually adopted healthier rituals that she is happy to pass onto her children. One of these involves the health powerhouse that is honey.

“I found healing properties in honey that benefit me and my children. And now I’m building a hemp and a honey farm.”, she said,  I’ve even got hives on my roof! And I’m so happy that my daughters will have the example of those rituals from me.”

Raw honey is an incredible source of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties that can help to promote health and longevity. Now, while we can’t promise that it’s going to turn you into a global superstar, we can promise that your health will thank you for it.
