We all age eventually, but it doesn’t mean we have to put up with it. You can still have beautiful hair and younger-looking skin as you get older; you just need to make a few lifestyle and aesthetic changes. Here are 7 easy ways to look younger, according to multiple health experts.

Tip 1: Use Products That Contain Azelaic Acid

Anyone who’s delved into the anti-aging side of the internet has probably heard of retinol and all its positives. Retinol can improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and improve skin texture, leaving you looking younger, so you should absolutely add it to your skincare routine (in small doses, to start).

However, if you have acne and rosacea, azelaic acid results in better-looking skin. That’s because azelaic acid can clean your pores, reduce inflammation, and encourage cell turnover.

Tip 2: Focus on Lifting the Skin Around Your Eyes

The skin around your eyes is one of the first places to age. You may experience sagging, dark circles, or crow’s feet around this area as early as your late 20s. If you pluck your eyebrows higher and protect your eyelid with a daily cream regimen, you’ll start to open up the area.

If you’re already seeing signs of aging, avoid dark makeup. It could make your eyes look smaller. Instead, just add a bit of eyeliner, mascara, and concealer under the eyes.

Tip 3: Apply a High SPF Sunscreen Every Single Day

How quickly you age is determined by how many accumulative hours you’ve spent in the sun. You can drastically reduce the number of wrinkles that appear on your face by wearing sunscreen daily (even in winter). You should also stop intentionally sunbathing right away.

Most dermatologists will recommend a sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15, but the higher, the better. You’ll also need to reapply every 10-30 minutes or after getting out of the pool. Choose a mineral based sunscreen though as creams with oxybenzone are under the spotlight for damaging our environment and potentially health in the long term.

Tip 4: Consider a Different Haircut or Hair Color

You don’t have to cover your gray hair if you don’t want to, but your hair can make your face look older or younger. Dark or brown hair against a light scalp can make thinning more visible and vice versa. If you color your hair to match your scalp, you’ll instantly look younger

Keep in mind that you don’t have to chop off all of your hair, but a fringe can mask the wrinkles on your forehead and shorten the face. Stick with a style that makes you feel confident.

Tip 5: Eat Supplements, Fruits, and Vegetables

Your diet can significantly impact the way you look, feel, and smell. If you aren’t eating enough fruits and vegetables, you could be missing out on nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. More specifically, you won’t have enough vitamin C or antioxidants, essential for anti-aging.

Still, you may be lacking in nutrients anyway due to poor absorption, which can happen as you get older. Take a multivitamin supplement daily to stay on top of your health and avoid disease.

Tip 6: Drink More Than 8 Cups of Water a Day

Water is nature’s youth drink, but most of us don’t get enough of it. If you have persistent headaches, hard stools, fatigue, dry mouth, and dull skin, you should take these symptoms as a sign you need more water. If you’re active, you’ll need to drink even more water to stay healthy.

We recommend drinking more than 8 cups a day if you’re busy, and you’re adjusting your diet. Water can flush out toxins in your body, which may be contributing to older-looking skin.

Tip 7: Stop Smoking and Drinking Alcohol

You’ve probably heard that 2 glasses of wine per day is great for your health, but modern studies show that isn’t the case. A 2018 meta-analysis that looked at hundreds of studies pertaining to alcohol use found that drinking no alcohol was the best option for your health.

When it comes to smoking, the cat’s been out of the bag for a while. Smoking isn’t just one of the worst things you can do for your health, but it also prematurely ages you from the inside out.
