Aviv Clinics, a pioneering medical science facility focused on enhancing and optimizing brain and body performance through Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, opened in JLT, Dubai this past week.
The inauguration of the state-of-the-art clinic was conducted in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. He is the Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, Chairman of Dubai Airports, senior government representatives from a number of UAE Ministries and the newly appointed Consul General for Israel, Ilan Stzulman Starosta.
A collaboration for health
The opening signals a new era in healthcare innovation and collaboration between the UAE and Israel, following last year’s signing of the Abraham Accords.
Developed over more than a decade by world-renowned physician Prof. Shai Efrati, his research team at Sagol School of Neuroscience at Shamir Medical Center in Israel, and the Aviv team, the Aviv Medical Program is a transformative treatment scientifically proven to reverse physical and cognitive decline caused by the aging process. Combining Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, HBOT, with the latest neuroscience, physiology research, and the most advanced diagnostic imaging technology, there is no other program in the world using the unique protocol delivered by Aviv Clinics.
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
According to Johns Hopkins, HBOT was first used in the U.S. in the early 20th century. Today, it’s still used to treat decompression sickness, but it’s also been approved for more than a dozen other conditions. Several studies have shown that HBOT can signficantly improve cognitive capacity and physiological aging. Under specific medically supervised programmes, it will improve the brain health in aging adults.
A new beginning
Awadh AL Ketbei is the Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority. In his opinion, “The opening of Aviv Clinics in Dubai adds a new dimension to the advanced, world-class healthcare infrastructure in Dubai and the UAE.”
The adoption of innovative, smart technologies in healthcare delivery supports the UAE’s vision to become a global hub for cutting-edge innovation in healthcare”. Highlighting the UAE’s vision 2021 to become a global hub for cutting-edge innovation in diverse sectors, including both curative and preventative health, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai Chamber of International Trade and Chairman of DP World said:
“The opening of a pioneering medical science facility that demonstrates the same approach is testament to the bold and ambitious environment Dubai’s vision has created.”
The clinic in JLT is a purpose-built facility and will benefit from its strategic location.
“Aviv Clinics Dubai is an excellent demonstration of mutual success, and the increasingly important role innovation and advancement in healthcare play in both societies. We are looking forward to many more future collaborations across sectors with the UAE.”
The 7,000 square meter facility is the second Aviv Clinic in the world. The first opened in Florida, the USA in 2020.
The future of HBOT
Apart from its researched ability to reverse aging of the brain, HBOT has the potential to become a mainstream treatment for a wider range of conditions. Many would like to see HBOT receive FDA approval as an alternative therapy for autism. They’d also like to see it used for ADHD, cerebral palsy, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and others.
