Who doesn’t love Tom Daley? The Olympic diver and gold medalist has ignited a resurgence around the world for knitting while raising awareness for cancer.
Daley is not just a great athlete and knitter. He is also a significant Instagram influencer @tomdaley @Madewithlovebytomdaley and has been using this influence to do good. The super athlete has been seen with crochet needles throughout the Tokyo Games. He is currently knitting his way to gold medal number 4 and has even created a tiny sleeve for his gold medal, earned with partner Matty Lee in the men’s 10-meter synchronized dive.
You can achieve anything
His winning gold medal speech also made headlines around the world. He told the press, “ I am so proud to say that I am a gay man and an Olympic champion too”.
“When I was younger, I didn’t think I would achieve anything because of who I am. Being an Olympic champion now just shows that you can achieve anything.”
Tom Daley is raising money for a brain tumour charity
The British Olympian is using his knitting skills to raise awareness and funds for the U.K.-based Brain Tumour Charity. He is honouring the memory of his father Robert, who died of brain cancer in 2011, a year before Daley’s Olympic debut at the London Games.
