A Dancer’s Workout: Pilates and Power Yoga

Charlize Theron beauty At an impressive 5ft 10, the South African actress and model has a lean, toned figure, and this is how she maintains it. Having trained as a professional ballerina until the age of 18, Theron is no stranger to intense exercise.

Even after her dancing career was halted due to a knee injury, the actress’s love for the graceful but rigorous form of exercise continued, and she turned to Pilates to keep herself in shape, taking 4 to 5 classes per week, ranging from 60 to 90 minutes. 

“It’s totally changed my body.”

She likes to add variety to her workout routine in the form of a few sessions of Power Yoga, a fast-paced style of yoga that emphasizes endurance and strength. She also includes a few sweat-sessions every week, usually spinning, or even an outdoorsy activity, like tennis. 

“I’ve always believed that if you find something you love, exercise won’t be ashore. I love anything outdoorsy. My mom recently got me to play tennis, which I wasn’t good at, but really enjoyed it. If you do the exercise you enjoy you’re keeping yourself fit without even realizing it,” Theron says in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

Feel-Good Food

To complement her intense workouts, the Bombshell actress is conscious of what she fuels her body with. Theron gained over 30lbs for a role, not once, but twice, so she knows all about indulgence and how it makes her body feel: 

“When I’m eating healthily, getting enough sleep, and not drinking alcohol, that’s when I look my best. That’s when I’m happiest, and I think it shows.”

Raw Vegan Diet

On a day-to-day basis, when the actress isn’t preparing for a specific movie part, Theron favors a plant-based raw diet. According to expert dieticians, consuming a raw vegan diet can improve your digestion, lower your risk of diabetes, and aid in weight loss. Although it may work for the Tully actress, it is recommended to read up on it further. Although not fully vegan, Theron is hyper-conscious of what she puts in her body, and how it makes her feel. The star stays away from alcohol, as it makes her feel sluggish and bloated.

Due to Theron’s private nature, it is unclear whether or not she has changed her mind since, but one thing is certain: she is as beautiful as ever at 46, and a major contributing factor is her attention to proper skincare.

The Monster actress implemented a simple but effective skincare routine consisting of serum, eye cream, and a good-quality moisturizer to keep her skin plump and glowing. She wears sunscreen every single day to ensure that her skin doesn’t suffer from sun-damage. As a mother of two, Charlize Theron says that her mornings are always chaotic, so she sticks to the pm for her full skincare routine: “I have really learned to take care of my skin at night, so the mornings really are often just a hot washcloth, brushing my teeth, and putting sunblock on.”

Then there are days we tell ourselves, ‘Oh my god, maybe it’s time to get a face-lift.’ And that’s OK. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to age. The more we can understand that it’s normal and part of the process, the more we’ll take the pressure off.”
