With every year that passes, Halle Berry continues to age quite gracefully. In 2018, the actress took her fitness mindset to another level by creating a weekly video series on Instagram called #FitnessFriday. With the help of her trainer Peter Lee Thomas, the beauty used the series to share fitness tips to her 4.3 million followers.
In the spirit of the new year, the thespian recently spoke on how one could go about setting realistic fitness resolutions for 2019.
Halle Berry Fitness Resolutions
As she often documents her fitness journey, Berry wasted no time in sharing her own fitness goals. If yours is anything like hers, read on to discover how you can achieve them just the same.
1. Get bangin’ abs
Halle Berry’s first resolution was to achieve ‘banging abs’. Anyone who follows the star on social media will have noticed her chiseled core, partly due to the intense exercises that her trainer routinely puts her through. So what’s the best way to get abs that would rival that of the former Bond girl?
Firstly, the diet. If you’re looking to have washboard abs, you’ll need to decrease your body fat. This can be done by clearing your diet of processed foods, sugar, and refined carbohydrates. You then replace them with nutrient-dense foods such as lean protein, vegetables, nuts, and fruits and good fats like olive oil and salmon.
In terms of fitness, it’s best to work every single muscle and this can be done through HIIT exercises. You should also add in strength training, to build more muscle, as well as toning exercises such as planks.
2. Learn a new martial art
MMA refers to mixed-martial arts and Berry has been quite vocal in her support for MMA fighters such as Cris Cyborg. So much so that she’s even incorporated MMA into her training.
MMA not only provides you with a healthy outlet for all your aggression, but it can also boost your confidence, improve resilience and be a great cardio workout.
Other forms of martial arts such as Muay Thai and tai chi all have both fitness and health benefits. These include weight loss, improved focus, self-discipline, and improved stamina, tone, balance, and flexibility.
So be it MMA or karate, picking up martial arts in 2019 would be a great step for your health and fitness.
3. Run more
Running is both a free and easy way to stay fit thus it’s no wonder everyone is constantly doing it.
Various studies have found how running can boost your endurance, improve both mood and sleep, improve heart health, as well as help protect your brain against age-related cognitive decline.
If you’re a beginner, start slow by aiming for 30 minutes of two to four runs a week before gradually building your way up.
4. Do Bikram yoga
Like many of us, Berry has practiced yoga as a form of meditation. That being said, she hopes to practice more Bikram yoga in 2019.
Bikram yoga(hot yoga) is a form of yoga that incorporates 26 postures in a heated room (30-40°C) for 90 minutes. This form of yoga has been credited with helping to detox the body, improve flexibility, mindfulness and boost heart health.
