What is wellness? At a time when the word continues to be redefined to suit whichever trend is currently being adopted by Gwyneth Paltrow, it can sometimes be hard to figure out what’s right for your body. This is why Longevity LIVE has created Wellness Wednesdays – a weekly show hosted by the founder of the World of Longevity, Gisèle Wertheim Aymés that will help you on your wellness journey.  Joined by a different expert each week on @longevity_live. Gisèle and her guests will help you take baby steps with facts and points.

Wellness Wednesdays ft. Zuraida Jardine

About 7 years ago, Jardine decided to study psychology and now has obtained her honors in psychology. Through her journey of studying psychology, she fell in love with functional medicine which transitioned her mind in ways she didn’t know. This eventually led her to study to be a functional medicine health coach.

Later on, Jardine discovered breathwork therapy and is now an advanced breathwork practitioner, and is currently completing her masters in critical diversity studies, which looks more into the study of power and social relations.

Plant-based living

Jardine has always been predominantly vegetarian.

Now that she knows the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle, she encourages others to do their research into the correlations between health and wellbeing and a plant-based diet.

“I am enjoying and appreciating the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle”

She was recently chosen by Nestlé to help launch their new premium NESCAFÉ GOLD plant-based, non-dairy lattes.  Crafted with plant-based ingredients, these non-dairy coffee lattes are for people following a vegan diet. They’re also perfect for those wishing to live a healthier, sustainable lifestyle. And it follows that, Jardine has become one of the brand’s biggest fans.

The curse of choice

We’re constantly bombarded with choices. We’re all being flooded with options for what to eat and drink, most of which are quite unhealthy – despite what it pretends to be. Coupled with the high levels of obesity (especially during a pandemic), what do we do?

According to Jardine, the first thing you need to do is be gentle with yourself. Her second point? Don’t drown in information, “We are living in an information age where there are so many dos and don’ts. I think it’s so important that you continue to educate yourself and do your own research,” Jardine adds that you stick to peer-reviewed journals.

Social media rules

Just as you take the time and the care to create and curate your social media, you need to take the time and care to start curating your own well being

How can one do this?

Jardine says that you should become deliberate about the people that you’re following. Instead of following accounts that make you feel bad about yourself, Jardine suggests that you follow accounts that motivate you, inspire you, and educate you (you can follow us on Instagram here.)

Be S.M.A.R.T about your health

S – Simple

M – Measurable

A – Attainable

R – Realistic

T – Time-Bound

If you want to begin to change your sleep, nutrition or movement patterns, start with small goals that can be measured within a certain period of time” explains Jardine, “If you want to stop eating meat, you can’t go cold-turkey. However, if you follow Meatless Mondays, that’s a SMART goal that you can measure, and hopefully can attain. The same goes for weight loss, sleep hygiene, or self-care hygiene – make it a SMART goal
