This past Sunday, actress Jessica Biel celebrated her 37th birthday. While plenty of time has passed since she first graced our screens as Mary Camden in the show 7th Heaven, the Hollywood starlet still looks as youthful and graceful as she did then.

That being said, how does the mom-of-one and wife to Justin Timberlake age so gracefully and effortlessly? Read on to find out.

Jessica Biel’s wellness secrets

1. She prioritizes her digestive health

When it comes to maintaining overall health, digestion is key, and this is something Biel is well aware of. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, the actress admitted that she had removed two staples from her diet in order to maintain her digestive health,

Honestly, I just feel better when I don’t have gluten, or wheat or dairy, she revealed. “My digestion is better, I feel better, I have more energy”.

For many people, gluten sensitivity and celiac disease, as well as lactose intolerance, can affect their digestive health. Thus, eliminating these factors from your diet can improve your digestive health. However, that’s not the only way one can support their digestive system.

Firstly, according to a study published in the journal Gut, leading an active lifestyle can help to maintain gut flora, which in turn supports a healthy digestive system.

Another way in which to protect your digestive health is by enjoying fermented foods. These foods are rich in probiotics – substances that help to maintain gut health. These foods include yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut. Here are more of our favorite fermented foods.

2. She goes organic

When it comes to her food choices, Biel always opts for organic. Additionally, she also revealed to the Los Angeles Times that she grows the food herself,

We have a beautiful garden and go out all of the time every couple of days, pick spinach and pick radishes and things and throw them together in a salad and it’s wonderful,” she shared.

So why go organic? One word – pesticides. These are substances that are used in agriculture to prevent the spoilage of large quantities of crops. Unfortunately, various studies have revealed that pesticide exposure can cause health issues such as memory loss, loss of coordination, uncontrollable mood, hormone disruption, and even problems with fetal development (1).

Aside from eating organic, growing the food yourself has plenty of other health benefits. Gardening can help alleviate stress and boost hand strength, as well as help you instill healthy habits into your children.

3. She’s a true yogi

Like many wellness-driven individuals, Biel is a big fan of yoga.

Speaking to Shape Magazine, the starlet revealed how yoga allowed her to better prioritize her fitness health,

Having my mind focused on exactly how I need to look and that perfect bikini body — that’s changed, she said. “I just want to be healthy. I want my joints and my ligaments and my body to feel good and free of pain, so I can have fun with my family.

Aside from helping to strengthen your bones and muscles, yoga can also help you better your breathing, a factor that Biel admires.

The breath work helps me feel that I’m connecting my mind and the breathing to the different movements — that to me feels like I’m connecting to my body in a way that I don’t do on a normal basis.

Here are five yoga poses that can boost your longevity.

4. She regularly practices cryotherapy

According to PageSix, Biel, along with her husband, regularly practice cryotherapy.

For those who don’t know, cryotherapy requires you to spend a few minutes in a cold chamber. Aside from helping alleviate sports injuries, cryotherapy can also help boost collagen production and ease insomnia and fatigue.
