Donovan is a strategist, thought leader and public speaker within the plant-based food sector and vegan movement. He believes in highlighting the health, environmental, economic and ethical benefits of a move towards a more plant-based society. He is currently the Country Director for ProVeg South Africa (PVSA), the South African chapter of ProVeg International; an international food awareness organisation working to transform the global food system by replacing conventional animal-based products with plant-based and cultured alternatives. Through PVSA he oversees the local licensing of the V-Label certification (Europe’s largest vegan label). He is also a director at the Physicians Association for Nutrition South Africa. Before moving to ProVeg to found their South African chapter, he was the Brand Manager at The Fry Family Food Co. (Fry’s), South Africa’s leading manufacturer of plant-based meat replacements, with distribution to over 30 countries. Before becoming involved in the plant-based food arena Donovan held various financial management, accounting, audit and advisory roles. He has a Bachelor of Business Science with Honours in Finance from UCT, and Honours in Accounting from UNISA. Aside from his work at ProVeg, Donovan highlights the benefits of a plant-based for athletes by taking part in endurance sports and has completed both the Comrades Marathon and Ironman Triathlon on a 100% plant-based diet.
