Water is essential; without it, our planet and health would be in serious trouble. Due to its life-giving capabilities, the market continues to introduce a variety of water products and the latest offering is structured water.

What is structured water?

According to experts, structured water is water with a molecular structure in the form of a hexagonal structure. This type of water can be found in glacier melts and natural springs. As it is unfiltered and unprocessed, it’s considered to be more pure. Additionally, structured water molecules are believed to hold more energy, and this can translate to increased hydration for the body.

Does it have benefits?

In his book, The Water Puzzle and the Hexagonal Key: Scientific Evidence of Hexagonal Water and Its Positive Influence on Health, Dr. Mu-Shik Jhon delved into the benefits of structured water. Because many diseases are associated with poor hydration, researchers believe that water, particularly structured water, can benefit the body.

These benefits include:

1. Better hydration

As structured water is believed to hold more energy, the idea is that it may rehydrate you much faster than regular tap water.

2. Reduced inflammation

The body contains proteins that fold on top of each other. According to experts, how these proteins fold determines their functionality in the body. If these proteins fold well, then your body works well. So where does structured water come in?

Well, stress can affect how these proteins fold and this can disrupt the body’s system by causing inflammation. Researchers believe that structured water can snap these poorly folded proteins back into place. This then reduces inflammation and protects the body.

3. Reverse biological age

Biological age refers to how the body is aging on a cellular level. If you’re aging too biologically fast, then you face an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer and have a higher rate of cognitive decline, disability, and mortality.

According to a study led by Analemma, a company that manufactures structured water, individuals who consumed structured water for three months experienced a 12 reduction in their biological ages.

Science is shaky

Now, while the concept of structured water sounds fun, the science behind it is not as structured. High-quality human studies are either limited or backed by companies that manufacture structured water.

Also, common knowledge debunks the idea of structured water. How so? Well, we all know that the chemical formula for water is H2O, yet proponents of structured water claim that the chemical formula for structured water is H3O2. Also, in its liquid form, water molecules are constantly moving, so it is hard to imagine the molecules of structured water having a fixed hexagonal shape.

Regular water is all you need

Yes, structured water does sound like a fun concept. However, your water doesn’t have to be structured to support good health and longevity. While scientists do their part to determine the legitimacy of structured water, do your part to stay hydrated as possible.

If you’re struggling with drinking enough water, try keeping a bottle of water filled on hand, at your work desk, in your car, at the gym, in meetings, and even next to your bed. Also, add a little mint, lemon, or ginger to flavor your water.
