We all need a little glitter and shine in our lives, which is probably why so many people are looking to the power of crystals to get through the days. Unfortunately, like many things that seemingly become popular overnight, a lot of people are skeptical about crystals, and brush them off as a new-age fad.

However, perhaps the healing power of crystals may be exactly what we need to get through the rest of 2021.

“Crystal therapy is the practice of mineral application and attunement for energetic alignment and balance,” explains Mariah K. Lyons, author of Crystal Healing for Women. According to her, the right crystals can provide “holistic well-being of mind, body, and spirit,”.

So, with that said, what exactly are these crystals, and are they worth adorning our homes with them?

What are healing crystals?

Crystal healing essentially refers to the use of crystals to draw out negative energy after they’ve been placed on, or near, an area of the body.

Our bodies are dynamic, electromagnetic organisms—we have physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual energy flowing through us all the time,” explains Amy Mercee, holistic health expert and author of The Mood Book: Crystals, Oils, and Rituals to Elevate Your SpiritCrystals are a fun and unique way to help direct and influence that energy towards greater health when used with the right intention.”

So, do they actually work?

The placebo effect

In terms of scientific evidence, there isn’t much that proves the effectiveness of crystal healing. However, proponents of crystal healing claim that the healing energy is metaphysical and has no physical density to measure. That said, researchers do believe that crystal healing may induce a placebo effect, and this can then improve your health.

Christopher French is the head of the anomalistic psychology research unit at the University of London. According to him, placebo effects are effects that accompany a treatment that is not directly due to the treatment itself acting on the disease of the patient. Essentially, a person may feel better after working with crystals, but there is no scientific proof that how they’re feeling had anything to do with the crystals being used.

“There is no evidence that crystal healing works over and above the placebo effect,” French told Live Science. “That is the appropriate standard to judge any form of treatment. But whether you judge crystal healing, or any other form of [complementary and alternative medicine], to be totally worthless depends upon your attitude to placebo effects.”

In addition to the placebo effect, researchers from Stanford University believe that setting your mind to something can will that something into existence. Basically, if you can dream it, you can achieve it.

So, if you believe in the healing of crystals, then you’re well on your way to living a healthier life. Now, the only question left is which crystal should you get?

The Best Healing Crystals For Your Health

1. Rose quartz

If you’re struggling with matters of the heart, then this is the crystal for you. In addition to addressing your heartbreak, rose quartz can also help teach you compassion, respect, trust, and even self-worth.

“Rose quartz radiates the frequency of pure, unconditional love. It helps to balance, calm, harmonize, and heal the body, mind, and spirit and to deepen the relationship with the self, family, community, and Earth,” Lyons says.

2. Clear quartz

If you feel that your life needs some alignment, then clear quartz is the crystal for you, and it helps to balance out your body. It does this by regulating the energy surrounding you, cleansing you of the negative one so that you can come out more balanced and revitalized.

Choosing a crystal

If you’re interested in the world of crystals but are unsure of where to start, try the following:

  • Be open and receptive to whatever crystal comes your way
  • Take your non-dominant hand and pass it over the crystals, and see if you feel a subtle “tug” from one of the stones.
  • Always find an ethical source
  • Don’t pick one based on description – rather respond to a crystal’s energy
  • Use your intuition

Okay, you’ve got your crystals. Now what?

Set an intention

Firstly, it’s important to “program” your crystal, so that it can help address whatever concerns you want to use it for.

To do this, take a deep breath, place the crystal in your hand and then focus on your goal. You can try silently repeating a mantra, such as “help me rid myself of whatever’s holding me back.”

Adopting a crystal ritual

In addition to meditating with your crystal, there are a few ways you can incorporate them into your life. These include;

  1. Altar – Designating a space in your hope where you’ll layout your crystals and manifest your intentions.
  2. Bath – Dropping water-safe crystal or two into a bath.
  3. Make a grid—Finding a pattern and then begin placing your crystals in the pattern, starting from the outside and working your way in, keeping your intention in mind.
  4. Physical contact – Placing stones directly on your body
  5. Sleep – Keeping crystals on your nightstand, or even under your pillow

Conclusion

While crystal seems like a fun thing to get into, remember that, like other areas of alternative medicine, they don’t cure but rather enhance the work you’re already doing. Getting a crystal isn’t going to magically solve all your problems in one night – the fact of the matter is that you still have to do the work. Crystals are simply there to compliment your journey, not lead it.
