A fragrance that combines the classic Coco Mademoiselle fragrance with richer and deeper base notes.
About the fragrance
Much like the original COCO MADEMOISELLE Eau de Parfum, COCO MADEMOISELLE Eau de Parfum Intense combines a unique blend of fresh citrus peel and the ardent blaze of wood to give it both a perky and yet strong character. However, it maintains this olfactory expression while enhancing the deeper notes and the overall sensuality of the scent.
“ I wanted to remain close to the original formula, while giving it a whole new dimension,” explains Olivier Polge, Perfumer-Creator for the House of CHANEL. “I wanted to increase the proportions of fractionated patchouli*. Push it to the limit. Unleash its power on the skin without altering the freshness of the top notes.”
As a scent, COCO MADEMOISELLE Eau de Parfum Intense combines the fruitiness of Sicilian orange and Calabrian bergamot for its top notes. Heart of rose and jasmine are used for the middle notes before the Indonesian patchouli base takes root as the base and winds itself around the rose and jasmine. Finally, to create an even more immersed fragrance with deeper contours to the patchouli – Polge combined a higher proportion of patchouli leaves with an ambery accord composed of Tonka beans and Madagascar Vanilla Absolute.
The message behind it
Chanel launched COCO MADEMOISELLE Eau de Parfum in 2001, and it quickly became one of the brand’s top-selling fragrances. The scent was created for rebellious personalities with a taste for elegance as it uses a unique two-tiered composition of fresh citrus and sensual patchouli. All-in-all, the fragrance embodies sophisticated seduction.
This year, Chanel has launched COCO MADEMOISELLE Eau de Parfum Intense – while still remaining true to its oriental origins – this deeper fragrance has been developed to only enhance what the original embodies. It is aimed at anyone who wholeheartedly embraces their folly, their passion and their excessiveness with an open smile. The fragrance makes a strong impact, and has no intention of being forgotten.
In fact, the face of COCO MADEMOISELLE over the last 10 years, British actress Keira Knightley, has reenacted her mischievous role as she plays a light-hearted game of seduction for the fragrance’s new ad. It reveals a whole new personality trait of the temptress, which we haven’t seen before.
Why I like it
The fact of the matter is, you can never go wrong with COCO MADEMOISELLE. It’s been an all-time favourite scent for many women and could compete with N°5 (in my humble opinion). So, when the Intense was launched this year, it got me giddy with excitement. Upon application, you can immediately tell it’s still COCO MADEMOISELLE – but after a few seconds the deep, sensuous base notes come through which add an entirely different facet to the fragrance.
Personally, I feel that if you loved the original – you will love the intense as well and you can choose which one you’d like to wear according to the occasion. The intense will work beautifully for evening functions or on a cold winter’s day, whereas the original often makes for the perfect daily fragrance.
It’s a great addition to add to the much-loved Chanel fragrances and it’s worth trying to out if you’re looking for something sensual and sexy – yet feminine and elegant.
*Fractionated patchouli: 20 years ago, CHANEL came up with the idea of redistilling patchouli to obtain a fraction that provided new opportunities for use and is now widespread in the perfume industry.
