When it comes to taking care of ourselves, the truth is we know what is good for us and what isn’t. However, a misalignment occurs from the distractions of a busy life. We forget to apply our best knowledge. Β I believe the concept of bio harmony can become your key to Β better health, energy and longevity. If you’re ready to find your freedom, then this article will show you how to make that happen.

What are you? Β According to the yogic tradition you are threefold being; a spirit living in a body, manifesting consciousness through the mind. Β The most sophisticated organism on this planet, with the world of knowledge at your fingertips. Why do we struggle to feel the lightness, health, and vibrant energy we did as children. Β

You see knowledge serves no purpose if we don’t apply it. We have to use our knowledge to make certain choices. These choices lead to responsibilities, and it is in embracing our responsibilities that we find freedom.Β

The Bio Harmony method

The bio-harmony method outlines a way to come back to your natural state of good health, abundant with energy and joie de vivre.Β

The ideal of bio harmony is to achieve harmony in the mind-body. A mind that is clear and calm. A body that is energized, strong and flexible. All the organs and systems functioning in coherence, in unison, in harmony to create the song of life.

As a student and teacher of yoga, I have learned by experience the things that work in harmony with my mind-body. These practices enable me to feel my best, calm and confident, strong and vibrant.Β

I have applied these techniques over the years with my clients who range from yogis to people in recovery and rehabilitation. Along the way, I have discovered a few key truths about health and wellness.

Bio harmony is living in harmony with ourselves and nature.

Re-establishing circadian rhythm leads to proper rest

It starts at the crack of dawn and yes, the early bird does in fact catch the worm.

Circadian rhythm is our natural sleep/wake cycle and is governed by light changes in our environment. Our internal clock regulates physical and biochemical changes in the body that influence when we feel awake or tired. Biochemically it comes down to your endocrine system and the balanced release of melatonin and cortisol at the appropriate time.

When this rhythm gets disrupted, by artificial light, poor diet, or exercise late at night, our sleep quality and quantity decrease. Good quality restful sleep is the foundation of the bio harmony process.

How do you re-establish a natural circadian rhythm?

Before the age of alarm clocks the sun was our natural wake-up call; get out early in the morning and watch the sunrise. Shift your exercise routine so that you do most of the physical work early in the morning.

Avoid eating large meals late at night, limit the consumption of alcohol and caffeine, and stop screen time at least an hour before bed.Β

A gentle yin yoga session, or a 20min. meditation before bed will allow you to flow easily into restful sleep.

Breathe

The first thing we do when we come into this world is to take in a big, beautiful breath. Breathing properly is the most important thing we can do to maintain good health.

The air we breathe contains oxygen which cleans the blood, and prana or life force energy which nourishes the nervous system. The way we breathe determines the way we live.

Correct breathing should result in a warm glow being felt all over the body and a feeling of peace in the mind.

Maintain slow, deep breathing throughout the day to remain calm, balanced, and grounded. Β

Why breathing is important for bio harmony

When we feel stressed or anxious the breath changes. From a natural deep breath to a short and shallow breath. In our fast-paced world, many have lost the natural slow breath.

Short, fast breathing has myriad ill effects on the brain and body. Brainwaves become incoherent, we lose focus and the body becomes tense.Β

Our whole world may seem to get a bit crazy and out of control. That is until we remember to pause, feel, and take in a long luxurious breath to return to calm.

Breathing for better health

It follows that how we practice is how we live. Do the following breathing exercise early in the morning to establish a natural slow breath that you can maintain throughout the day.

Sit or stand with a straight spine, head level gazing at the horizon. Now inhale slowly a deep breath, keeping the shoulders still, and let the abdomen rise followed by the chest. Retain the breath, mentally sending it to every part of the body. Β Exhale slowly, lowering the chest.

This is the proper way to breathe. And it should be practiced until it becomes the usual way of breathing. (S.D. Ramayandas, 1964)

Drink pure structured water

After air, water is the most important element we consume to nourish and sustain our bodies.Β

The quality of water that we take in is critical. Clean and natural water, taken straight from a spring or river is best. If you don’t have access to a fresh spring, Β there are alternatives.

Natural water occurring in the environment is alive with energy and consists of a more structured molecular form than water that has been treated and piped.

Structured water or β€œhexagonal water” refers to water that has been organized at a molecular level forming a hexagonal structure.

The idea is that water molecules have a memory and react to experiences that they go through. In nature the constant flow around natural curves and connection with the earth’s magnetic field, has the effect of structuring the water. In a municipal water system the water goes through many processes, pumps and unnatural curves that break down this structure.

The harmonizing power of structured water

Β Dr. Masaru Emoto photographed ice crystals from water collected at different sources. He held that water collected from a mountain stream formed beautifully shaped ice crystals vs. water from polluted sources formed misshapen and distorted crystals. Municipal and even distilled bottled water did not have the benefit of being structured.

Structured water is more easily absorbed by our bodies and results in better cellular hydration, higher energy levels, boosted immune system and improved detoxification.

There are some companies mimicking nature with their technologies. Some structure water by making it flow in a vortex. Another way is by using a resonator, a device which is in constant vibration, sending out a coherent frequency which rearranges the molecules.

Both quality and quantity are important and it is recommended to drink around 1 – 1,5 litres of structured water per 60kg body weight per day, more if you exercise a lot.

Power of your words

From my personal experience structured water results in a smoother texture and taste. The water feels more energetic and it keeps me fuller for longer.Β

Dr. Emoto photographed ice crystals after prayers or after people spoke words of love, peace and harmony into the water. It goes to show the power of your words. Maybe aΒ  conscious moment of gratitude and love before taking in that glass of water will change everything.

I believe structured water is a critical element to include in the bio-harmony process.

The point is pure, structured water makes me feel great and I recommend it to absolutely everyone.

Cold water immersion

Next up we continue our discussion on the use of water. Specifically cold water. According to the yogis cold water retains vital energy in its natural state.Β

It is easy to experience for those brave enough to take the plunge. Take a look at my cold water video here οƒ  https://youtu.be/w2ltq0comEs

Again the knowledge is out there. Cold water has great effects on the mind-body and energy. The greatest barrier to this practice is the mind.

Diving in takes a lot of mental and emotional effort. We have to overcome barriers of fear and discomfort.Β

It is at the edge of our comfort zone where we find growth and experience benefits.

For those new to the cold water I recommend starting slowly. A cold shower for a few minutes. The technique is to remain calm, keep the body relaxed, and breathe deeply. Easier said than done. Challenge yourself to stay well after the initial shock has subsided to experience the real benefits.

My absolute favorite is cold water swimming in the ocean. Apart from the cold, the natural salty water cleans and renews your energy field, making you feel brand new.Β  Cold water immersion in nature is a very powerful bio harmony tool.

You are what you eat

The physical body known to the yogis as the β€œfood body” is made up of the food that we eat.Β

Food contains energy or prana. It also contains vitamins, minerals, and proteins which help our bodies to grow and heal.

In the modern world, we no longer eat to live, but we live to eat which goes against the law of nature.

We all know by experience how we feel when we have eaten a large unhealthy meal. Our energy dips and our emotional state wavers. Rather stick to fresher, more alive food that will make you feel better. Make sure you get a balance of all the food groups, and limit your overall consumption.

What you eat and how you eat affect your mind and emotional state due to the gut-brain connection. By eating light and healthy you can create a positive feedback cycle to boost brain function and improve your mood.

The best way to get your eating habits back in balance and regain control of your appetite is to start with a cleanse.Β

Take responsibility for what you consume, honour your body. Taking the correct action every day is where the breakthrough will come.

Some key game changers for your long term health

  • Commit to first practice and drink water before consuming any food. Wait till the body is hungry before you eat.
  • Slow down when you eat and consciously enjoy every bite.Β
  • Remove from your environment any processed foods, sugars, and caffeine.
  • Eat only food that you prepare yourself so that you can be in control of what you take in.
  • Intermittent fasting is a great health practice and something that can help you regain control of your diet.Β

Movement medicine for bio-harmony

In my view health, strength and mobility go hand in hand. Without good health, who can call himself strong. If you can’t reach overhead or look behind you, strength serves no purpose.

The purpose of yoga asana or posture is to create stability in the body. To strengthen the body and increase range of motion. To open the energetic pathways or meridians and to clear the body of any energetic or emotional blockages.Β

It is true, unprocessed emotions are stored in the body and can result in tightness, heaviness and even pain.

Integrate the breath and remain mindful while you are doing your physical practice. Change your practice to a moving meditation to be fully in the moment.

An all-round physical practice will strengthen, stretch, and stabilize the body. We aim to reach our boundaries and gently move beyond them, it is not always easy to grow, but it is necessary so that we can move forward and evolve into our true potential.

I like to incorporate a variety of practices in my daily routine. Traditional yoga, intuitive movement, chi qong, swimming and running.

Nature therapy

Nature is the ultimate healer. I recommend spending a portion of your day immersed in any natural place you can get to. The more natural and untouched, the better.

Stopping at the park to unwind before making your way home will be the difference between arriving stressed or in good spirits.

The earth balances our energy. Placing your bare feet on the earth every day will have a profound effect on your body and mind. The earth balances the electric charge within your body. It regulates your nervous system and leaves you feeling more in harmony with your surroundings.

Everything in this universe consist of electromagnetic fields vibrating at a specific frequency.

Trees have a stable energetic field while humans have a fluctuating energetic field. Emotions are energy in motion. Getting close to trees, especially natural forests has a profound effect. The trees will help to clear your energy or emotional field and promote better flow.Β

Take the time to get out into nature, it will calm you and connect you back to your true self.

Sound healing

Your body is constantly in vibration.Β

When we feel healthy and in harmony all the parts of our bodies are vibrating in coherence.

You can imagine each organ being a musical note. Each bodily system a combination of notes to form a musical chord.

The miracle of the human body, a symphony in motion. Bio-harmony will allow you to once again sing the song of life.

Getting our body back in harmony and clearing energy could be as simple as doing a gong bath, sound therapy or listening to the sound of water.

It is not my purpose to prove whether this works or not. I simply want to open the door to possibility and ask each to experience for themselves the power of sound.

Meditation

Meditation is perhaps the most profound practice. Only when the body is healthy and the mind calm, can you enter into a state of meditation.Β

Using the mind’s eye we look inward. Let go of our identity, our life and attachments to the β€œreal” world. Meditating for a portion of the day will have long lasting effects on the quality of your life.

All experience is through the lens of the mind. Meditation is a way of cleaning the lens so that we can clearly witness the miracle of reality.

Scientifically what happens when we meditate? The mind moves from conscious to subconscious. To a state in between wakefulness and sleep.Β

Delta, alpha and theta waves

Brain activity moves from the prefrontal cortex to the limbic brain. From the logical analytical area, to the older, mammalian area in charge of the autonomic nervous system.

Brainwaves, move from delta waves (associated with wakefulness) to alpha waves and even to theta. This basically means the frequency of your brain waves increase, and they become coherent or in sync.

The result is that you feel more at one with yourself and your surroundings. Your body and mind relax. Your view of the world and your life will be much clearer.Β

Not to mention you will be truly free. Free from worries about the future. Free from thoughts of the past. The only way to meditate is to be in the present moment.

What happens to us during meditation

During meditation we let go of our identity and become no-one. We let go of our position and return to nowhere. We even forget when it is and go to a place of no time. In this void we find our true consciousness and return to our true selves. All is possible.

For beginners it is helpful to first move through some guided meditations, before learning various techniques to practice on your own.

Bio Harmony in conclusion

Essentially reclaiming your health and your life is a question of energy. Einstein discovered that E=Mc2. That energy is matter, or vice versa.Β

Bio harmony moves us from a dense state of matter back to a vibrant state of energy. Energy has unlimited potential and so do we.

It might seem difficult to do these practices every day, so why not let me guide you and motivate you to start your journey?

End note

Practices to calm and centre. Practices to stabilize and strengthen. Practices to energize and harmonize.

Reclaim your power, and jump into the ocean of your being.Β

Once the ball is rolling, keeping up the momentum of self-care is easy. It has immense positive effects on your mind and body. Allow yourself the freedom to embody your spirit and increase the quality of your life.

Bio harmony is to live with longevity.
