Are you a dog owner, veterinarian, or anyone interested in healthy aging and longevity? If so, you may want to know more about The Dog Aging Project. You are invited to attend the FREE webinar The Dog Aging Project: extending the lives of “man’s best friend” and supporting the quest to increase human healthspan. This is Friday, May 7th, at 11:00-12:30 Est, 6:00-9:00 am Pacific time.
Dog Aging Project
You can register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-dog-aging-project-tickets-152873253015 now. The Kitalys Institute, will host the event. The institute is dedicated to the delay and prevention of age-related disease.
Dr. Matt Kaeberlein, Co-Director of the Dog Aging Project (DAP), will give a presentation on the DAP. The webinar will explore how we can work together to find new and innovative health solutions to extending healthy longevity for all. The presentation will be followed by a fireside chat moderated by Dr. Alexander Fleming, President of The Kitalys Institute.
About this Event
The Dog Aging Project (DAP) aims to understand how genes, lifestyle, and environment influence aging to assist dogs and people increase healthy longevity. Healthspan, the period of life spent free from disease.
Why study dogs to learn about humans?
Even though dogs age more rapidly than humans, they get the same diseases as aging. They are also genetically diverse and share our environment. Studies like DAP will inform the next generation of medicine, keeping us healthier for longer.
Topics will include:
-
An overview of DAP and how it is structured,
-
Current updates on DAP concerning the longitudinal study of aging and the rapamycin intervention trial (TRIAD),
-
What companion dogs demonstrate about aging that other animal models cannot,
-
Why rapamycin was chosen as the first intervention tested, and
-
Some of the challenges and opportunities in carrying out the first valid clinical trial for aging.
The presentation will be followed by a fireside chat moderated by Dr. Alexander Fleming, President of The Kitalys Institute.
If you are not able to make the seminar then still register as this will ensure you get a copy of the recording.
About the speakers
Matt Kaeberlein, PhD
Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine
Dr. Matt Kaeberlein is a Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine, with Adjunct appointments in Genome Sciences and Oral Health Sciences.
Dr. Kaeberlein’s research interests are focused on the biological causes of aging. He seeks to facilitate the translation of effective interventions that promote healthspan and improve quality of life.
A rising star in aging research
He has published more than 200 scientific papers. Several prestigious awards have recognized him, including young investigator awards from the Ellison Medical Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Association, the Vincent Cristofalo Rising Star in Aging Research Award, the Murdock Trust Award, the NIA Nathan W. Shock Award, and the Robert W. Kleemeier Award for outstanding research in the field of gerontology from the Gerontological Society of America (GSA).
Co-director of the Dog Aging Project
Dr. Kaeberlein has been awarded Fellow status with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Aging Association (AGE), and the GSA. Dr. Kaeberlein is currently the CEO and Chair of AGE. Past-President of AGE has served on the Board of Directors for the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) AGE and has served as Biological Sciences Chair for GSA. Dr. Kaeberlein is the founding Director of the UW Healthy Aging and Longevity Research Institute, the Director of the NIH Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging at UW, Director of the Biological Mechanisms of Healthy Aging Training Program, and founder and co-director of the Dog Aging Project.
Alexander Fleming, MD
Dr. Alexander Fleming is the President of The Kitalys Institute, a not-for-profit organization founded to catalyze research, development, evaluation, and use of solutions to prevent major age-related chronic diseases and slow the aging process itself.
He is also the founder and Executive Chairman of Kinexum, a life sciences advisory firm. Dr. Fleming led landmark FDA approvals, including metformin and the first statin, insulin analog, PPAR-agonist, and growth hormone for non-GH deficiency indications.
On Metabesity
Dr. Fleming coined the term “Metabesity,” which refers to the constellation of cancer, heart and neurologic diseases, diabetes, and the aging process itself, all of which share common metabolic root causes and therefore might be targeted collectively with a single intervention. He co-founded the first Metabesity conference in London in October 2017, followed by the second in Washington, D.C., in 2019, and the third held virtually in 2020.
Targeting Metabesity
The Kitalys Institute is hosting a 4-Day Conference in October. Virtual and FREE!
