Madonna may be a mother of six, but it’s clear that nothing’s slowing her down. The material girl recently celebrated her 62nd birthday and it’s clear that the Queen of Pop really is only looking better with age. Madonna has been a part of the music industry for almost four decades and one has to wonder how she stays on top of her health, as well as on top of the charts.
Madonna’s anti-aging secrets
She works out six days a week
If you’re going to be touring the world, spending two to three hours of your night performing to a sold-out crowd, then it’s important that you’re in the best shape of your life. Therefore, it’s no wonder Madge has such a packed schedule when it comes to her workouts.
Circuit training helps to improve both muscle strength and heart health, whereas interval training helps to burn calories and even increase both speed and endurance which explains why Madonna is so hyper on stage.
“She does a combination of circuit training, interval training, and resistance training,” her personal trainer, Craig Smith, told the Daily Mail. “We focus on elongating the muscles … and maintaining a svelte, lean dancer’s physique.”
She’s a dancing queen
Hard Candy Fitness is a chain of fitness centers founded by Madonna in 2010, and the brand offers Addicted To Sweat dance-cardio classes in all of its gyms.
For those looking to get a fun workout in, dancing is one of the best ways you can go. Aside from relieving stress, dance workouts can also help to improve bone health, muscle tone as well as coordination and flexibility.
She stays hydrated with coconut water
In 2010, the material girl invested $1.5 million in the coconut water company, Vita Coco, which was a good call as the company is now worth $1 billion. Coconut water is not only a great way to stay hydrated, but it’s been found to boast a few health benefits.
For one, coconut water is a good source of fiber and vitamin C – both of which can keep you healthy and ensure your longevity.
She eats a macrobiotic diet
Derived from a Japanese traditional food culture, a macrobiotic diet places emphasis on natural foods that have been naturally produced, all without the use of chemicals. Foods such as wheat, rice, soybean, and vegetables are featured in the diet.
Also, while fish and dairy products can be consumed, they need to have been grown and harvested without the use of chemicals or any other types of artificial processing. As the diet is largely vegetarian, and it significantly excludes the consumption of animal fat and processed foods, the diet may help to improve heart health.
She eats six small meals a day
According to her trainer, Smith, Madonna eats six small meals throughout the day and this is great for her, especially when you consider how intense her workout routine is.
Eating six small meals a day can help to boost metabolism and keep you energized throughout the day.
She’s no sun babe
Sun damage is the number one cause of premature aging. With that said, you may want to take a page out of Madonna’s book.
In 2018, she told E! that while she couldn’t afford fancy skincare until she was in her mid-twenties. Nonetheless, she credits her good skin today to not binge drinking and staying out of the sun,
“I didn’t go to the beach and get a sun tan..” she said. “…I have nice skin because I paid attention to those things when I was younger.”
She’s a yogi for Ashtanga yoga
Since 1996, Madonna has been an avid fan of Ashtanga yoga. This form of yoga places an emphasis on muscle training and improving your physical strength.
That said, Madonna sees yoga as a metaphor for life:
“You have to take it really slowly,” she explained. “You can’t rush. You can’t skip to the next position. You find yourself in very humiliating situations, but you can’t judge yourself. You just have to breathe, and let go. It is a workout for your mind, your body, and your soul.”
She likes her baths ice-cold – literally
While on her Madame X Tour, Madonna posted a video to her Instagram page. In the video, she can be seen sitting in an ice-filled bath, drinking her own urine at 3 am.
Now while researchers advise against drinking your own urine, taking an ice cold bath can be great for your health. This is because ice baths can help to alleviate sore muscles, and even lower inflammation.
