According to the Wall Street Journal, Prince Harry has a new job in the wellness profession. The Duke has been appointed Chief Impact Officer at BetterUp, a San Francisco-based mental health and coaching startup.

Harry’s new role as Chief Impact Officer

In an exclusive report by the Wall Street Journal, he shared details of his new role. Prince Harry will focus on “product strategy decisions and charitable contributions, and advocate publicly on topics related to mental health.”

Help create impact

He told the Wall Street Journal: “I intend to help create an impact on people’s lives. Proactive coaching provides endless possibilities for personal development, increased awareness, and an all-around better life.”

“Being attuned with your mind, and having a support structure around you is critical to finding your own version of peak performance,” he shared.

Transforming pain into purpose

“What I’ve learned in my own life is the power of transforming pain into purpose.”

Prince Harry has been open about his personal mental health.  In a 2017 podcast interview with Telegraph columnist Bryony Gordon, he admitted:  “I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I just didn’t know what was wrong with me.”

“I can safely say that losing my mum at the age of 12, and therefore shutting down all of my emotions for the last 20 years, has had quite a serious effect on not only my personal life but my work as well,” he told the podcast host.

The BetterUp approach

The app was launched in 2013 with a focus on pioneering growth for the whole person. “We believe that well-being and peak performance go hand in hand. And that through custom support and strengthening mental fitness, you unleash personal and professional potential.”

Matching coaches to client

The BetterUp app matches coaches with corporate clients, which reportedly include Hilton Worldwide Holdings, Google, and Airbnb.

The app uses coaching, AI technology, and behavioral science to help mentees become more effective in businesses, organizations, and employees.

The Duke will be joining a company led by a team of behavioral scientists, talent management strategists, and consumer product experts. A team that shares a passion for helping people become the best version of themselves.

Prince Harry is “a citizen of the world”

In an official BetterUp blog post, Alexi Robichaux, Co-founder, and CEO described Harry as “a true citizen of the world,” and said that “he has dedicated his life’s work to bringing attention to the diverse needs of people everywhere and advocating for mental health initiatives.”

He further went on to say, “Everyone wants to live a meaningful life. But, there are often barriers — both external and internal — that can limit our ability to do that on our own. That’s why we started BetterUp. We want to make a positive impact in the world by empowering millions of people to live their lives with greater clarity, purpose, and passion.”

The bottom line

Prince Harry’s new job follows hot on the heels of the famed interview with Oprah Winfrey. During the show he and his wife Meghan Markle  made a number of startling claims about the path their lives had taken since their wedding in May 2018. Despite the challenges,  the couple are showing their mettle.  They have been  financially cut off from the royal family, and are living off an inheritance provided by his late mother Princess Diana. However, as Business Insider has revealed, both are independently extremely well off.  Indeed, “between the two of them, they are reported to have a net worth of $30 million.”
