British singer Marianne Faithfull is currently undergoing treatment in a London hospital after contracting COVID-19. According to her partner Francois Ravard, the 74 year-old singer, who also has pneumonia, is “stable and responding to treatment.”
Symptoms of a cold
Her friends and fans have been vocal on social media. Penny Arcade, a performer and friend of Faithfull, told Rolling Stone the star had self-isolated after having symptoms of a cold. She said the singer checked herself into hospital last Monday (30 March) where she tested positive for COVID-19.
The artist remains hospitalized after developing pneumonia.
Battled Other Health Issues
Singer Marianne Faithfull has a long history of health issues. She’s been open about her struggles with drug abuse and anorexia over the years. She has suffered from hepatitis C for decades. Faithfull also suffered from breast cancer in 2016.
Arcade told her friends on Facebook: “She has withstood and survived so much in her life – including being Marianne Faithfull – that to be taken down by a virus would be such a tragedy.”
One Tough Lady
Faithfull has been making musicfor over 50 years. She released her first hit single ‘As Tears Go By’ at the age of 16.
Her extraordinary career has not been without controversy. Faithfull’s rise to fame began after she was discovered as a convent schoolgirl at the age of 17. She went on to become a pop star. This tough lady became known for her hedonistic lifestyle, including being homeless as well as addicted to heroin.
Iconic Singer Marianne Faithfull
In the 60s she dated Mick Jagger and the two became an iconic couple. During this time her heroin addiction was widely reported. In the 70s she released acclaimed albums such as Broken English. She also collaborated with producer Hal Willner on the 1987 album Strange Weather, as well as with Twin Peaks music producer Angelo Badalamenti on 1995’s A Secret Life.
During the early 2000s she released the albums Kissin’ Time and Before the Poison. She continues to produce music and released her 21st album in 2018. The album is called Negative Culpability.
Living With An Open Heart
According to the singer’s website, Bohemian Rhapsody star Lucy Boynton will play Marianne in a new biopic about her life, based on her memoir ‘Faithfull’. Set in London in the mid-1960s
So Far So Good
John Dunbar, who was married to the singer between 1965 and 1966 has been quoted as saying, “So far so good. She can barely speak and is not allowed visitors.”
