This year is all about breaking down identity stereotypes – and yoga is no exception. Yoga-wear brands are taking a stand against the idea that yoga is just for women. While there has traditionally been less choice for men, than women, when it comes to yoga-wear, this is no longer the case. Many yoga-wear brands have started producing ranges designed specifically with men in mind.

Why Is Yoga-wear Becoming Such A Hot Topic In Health And Fitness?yogawear | Longevity LIVE

We are all aware of the groundswell in yoga practice over the last few years. And as it turns out, this groundswell comes with good reason. Yoga isn’t simply a spiritual fad, rather it’s a meditative workout with great health benefits, which, in my opinion, every person should try at least once. Yoga expands our minds, our lungs, our sense of self and offers all kinds of fresh, undiscovered freedoms. It also allows us to let go of things like caring how we look whilst drenched in sweat holding a pose or the everyday stress that haunts our minds. This growing yoga movement has created an increased demand for yoga wear.

So, it’s not surprising that men are now realizing the benefits of yoga and are actively participating in its popularity. The sport is also offering men extra liberation and freedom when it comes to attire. They are finally free from the constrictive nature of traditional menswear and work suits.

Why Are Men Embracing Yoga-wear?yogawear | Longevity LIVE

Women have it easy when it comes to finding the right outfit for their yoga class. There are plenty of options in yoga apparel for women. It has even become fashionable for women to wear exotic and colorful patterns on the street. But options for men have been ridiculously slim.

Most of the time, men have been reluctant to purchase yoga-wear due to the associated stereotypes. Another reason is that they simply do not know where to look and what to look for.

Happily, in 2017 we will be seeing more men embracing yoga-wear because, as they take ownership of their own identities, they too are increasingly participating in the mindfulness and spirituality which yoga provides. Men of today want sustainable yoga-wear that offers them comfort and elasticity, and they want it now!

Which Brands Should Men Look For?

If you are taking your identity into your own hands and embracing yoga, then look no further. These are just a few brands that are producing men’s yoga-wear for elevated performance. Baggy sweat pants and gym shorts aren’t a viable choice. They will prevent the fluidity of movement and minimize your overall fitness outcome. These brands will ensure comfort, peace of mind, and agility.

The brand is focused on simplicity. It is easy-to-wear, functional, and purposeful. The brand even has a humorous element. The T-shirts with “Downward Dogs” and “Yoga Drunks” bring a unique and light-hearted quality to the brand and make the wearer feel good. The shirts and shorts are also made in different fabric weights. They are designed to accommodate both heated and non-heated yoga practices for men.

2. Pranayoga-wear | Longevity LIVE

It’s a sustainable, versatile, and stylish men’s yoga-wear brand. Its story is focused on providing its wearer with an active and adventurous lifestyle. Prana is innovative as it combines both classic yoga styles and modern materials. It is also eco-friendly and sustainable, with a line of hemp-woven Sutra pants, shorts, and t-shirts. Yoga-wear is even nice enough for men to wear on the street.

Designed by athletes, this yoga-wear brand is focused on cultivating a culture that sees performance apparel for men as ‘cool.’ Vuori is unique as it fuses together yoga, surfing, art, and music. It promotes health and fitness by producing clothing that’s built for movement but can transition to life outside the yoga studio. The brand uses innovative technology to include a recycled series of garments made from plastic bottles and Sea Cell-a fabric, made with a blend of algae and wood pulp. This fabric contains anti-odor properties, vitamins, and nutrients. Therefore, providing a sustainable choice for men.

The founders of this brand have honored the principles of yoga, by designing an integrated brand that cultivates a culture of authenticity. YogaSmoga has designed men’s yoga-wear with Aurum performance fabric and eco-friendly, fade-resistant Carbon 6 black dye. It also ‘fosters the beauty of giving back through the Namaskar Foundation to bring health, education, and micro-lending to communities in need,’ according to YogaSmoga.

Most people see Lululemon as a female-focused, trendy yoga-wear brand. But, it has a wide range of men’s yoga wear, too. While Lululemon has activewear for all types of sports and fitness, it also has a dedicated yoga section for men. The brand is naturally breathable, sweat-wicking, and four-way stretch yoga-wear, which includes Silverescent technology to stop the growth of odor-causing bacteria.

You may feel as if yoga-wear for men is still unfamiliar territory. But the yoga craze is not going anywhere. In fact, it’s continuously growing in popularity. We are sure that 2017 has all kinds of eccentric, innovative, sustainable, and stylish active male yoga-wear designs in store – we can’t wait to see what it offers next!
